Q41. I achieved my goal and felt nothing. What is wrong with me?
The short answer: Nothing is wrong with you. Something is wrong with the theory — the theory that the goal was what you were actually after. The goal was never the destination. It was the justification for the engagement. The engagement ended when the goal arrived. That is what you are feeling.
The framework: The mind’s engagement function requires an object. While the goal existed in the future, the engagement had something real to hold — the planning, the effort, the anticipation, the identity of someone moving toward something. These produced a sense of aliveness that felt like it was coming from the goal. It was not. It was coming from the quality of engagement with the pursuit.
When the goal arrives, the pursuit ends. The engagement collapses. What remains is the mind without a compelling object — and for most people, that state is unfamiliar and uncomfortable. The flatness after achievement is not ingratitude and it is not depression. It is the Vikshipta mind oscillating in the absence of its previous anchor.
The Chitta Bhumis are precise here. Vikshipta touches focused states during the pursuit — the energy of Rajas carrying the attention forward. When the pursuit ends, Rajas has no direction and Vikshipta settles back into its default oscillation. The achievement is real. The feeling afterward is also real. Both are accurate. Neither means something is wrong.
What the feeling is pointing at: the engagement function is available. The question is what it points at next. Objects in the outer world have a ceiling — they deliver while the pursuit is active and fall flat on arrival. The practice gives the engagement function something that does not have that ceiling. Contact with consciousness does not arrive and then disappoint. It deepens.
The turn: Nothing is wrong with you. The theory was wrong. The practice corrects the theory by giving the engagement somewhere worth going permanently.
