F07. Can karma be changed — and if so, how?

The short answer: Prarabdha cannot be changed — it is already in motion. Kriyaman can be influenced through the quality of consciousness brought to present action. Sanchit can be dissolved — not changed — through contact with consciousness and the Sound Current. These are three different questions and they have three different answers.

The framework: The question “can karma be changed” collapses three distinct questions into one, which is why the answers to it are so inconsistently given. The answer depends entirely on which layer of karma is being asked about.

Prarabdha — the destiny karma already in motion — cannot be changed. This is the most difficult truth in the framework for most people to accept, because it challenges the premise that sufficient effort can redirect any circumstance. The marriage that is ending is ending. The health challenge that arrives is arriving. The financial difficulty that is in the Prarabdha will manifest. No amount of visualization, positive thinking, prayer, ritual, or willpower redirects the Prarabdha. What is in motion will complete its arc.

Kriyaman — the real-time karma being generated — can be influenced. The quality of consciousness brought to present action determines how much new impression is deposited. The practitioner who engages from a platform of consciousness rather than from reactive identification generates minimal new Kriyaman. Over time this makes a significant difference to the trajectory of the account — the Sanchit stops growing as fast, the future Prarabdha becomes less dense, the cycle begins to thin.

Sanchit — the total accumulated store — cannot be changed in the sense of having specific entries rewritten. But it can be dissolved. Contact with consciousness — genuine, sustained, deepening through the practice — provides the solvent for the Sanchit. Not by targeting specific impressions but through the general dissolving action of the Sound Current on the accumulated material. The merger of the Surat with the Shabd, when complete, dissolves not specific entries in the Sanchit but the account holder itself. The account exists. There is no longer an entity to claim it.

The turn: Karma can be influenced at the Kriyaman level. It can be dissolved at the Sanchit level through the practice. It cannot be redirected at the Prarabdha level. Understanding which question is being asked produces clarity about which intervention is appropriate.
