The Ultimate Truth of Life and Death

wakening to reality and truth,

โ€œLife is bound to you, youโ€™re not bound to life. Karma is bound to you, youโ€™re not bound to Karma. Where you engage binds you.โ€

Dr. Abhishek Papneja

In life, we are often caught up in the endless pursuit of dreams, passions, and accomplishments. But when deathโ€”the ultimate and inevitable endโ€”stands before you, what are you truly left with? The things we spend our lives chasingโ€”success, recognition, relationshipsโ€”ultimately fade away. Everything you hold dear, from your family and friends to your ego and societal achievements, cannot be taken with you. Even your legacy, which you tirelessly build, will be forgotten in time. The reality is that life will continue, and people will move on.

Whatโ€™s the Point of Struggling?

This raises an essential question: whatโ€™s the point of fighting, hating, or struggling in a world where all of it eventually vanishes? Time is running out, and every moment spent in conflict or pursuing material gain is time wasted, drawing you further from understanding the true essence of your existence.

When death comes, everything external will disappear. But the question is: What will go with you?

The only thing that can follow you isโ€ฆ you. But not the โ€˜youโ€™ you see in the mirror. Not the body. Not the thoughts or emotions. Not the ego that says, โ€œI am this or that.โ€

Awakening to the True Self

You are the consciousness behind it all. The energy that says, โ€˜This is me.โ€™ The soul that is eternal. If you havenโ€™t connected with that truth, then you leave this life empty-handed, having spent your life chasing illusions. But if you connect with your true self and awaken to the sound of the shabda (the divine word or vibration), you have the only currency that transcends death.

โ€œDeath is your reality, and time is running out.โ€

Dr. Abhishek Papneja

The Currency of Spiritual Realization

Just as money is needed to survive in this material world, this divine connectionโ€”your relationship with your true consciousness and the shabdaโ€”is the currency required to return to the source. Good actions may take you to a place called heaven, but this is only temporary. True realization, the merging with the Lord, is eternal and goes beyond heaven. It is the ultimate destination, and the key to that door lies in the awakening of your soul.

Life is a predetermined dance, and at every moment, the right action will unfold as it is meant to by the Lordโ€™s will. You have no control over that. But what you do have is the freedom to chooseโ€”to bind yourself to the Lordโ€™s eternal truth or to the illusions of the material world. This is where your free will resides. Everything else is merely an illusion of control.

The Power of Bhakti and Self-Love

In the end, the purpose of life is not to chase fleeting dreams or build an identity based on societal values. It is to realize your true self and reconnect with the divine, paving your way back to the Lordโ€™s home. If you fail to awaken to this truth, then you leave empty-handed. But if you succeed, you return with the only treasure worth holding ontoโ€”the realization of your eternal self.

Itโ€™s not about how much time you spend in practice or how many years youโ€™ve devoted to your spiritual path. Itโ€™s about how much you love yourselfโ€”your true selfโ€”and the connection you foster within. This love, known as bhakti, is not about age, lifestyle, or even where you are. It doesnโ€™t demand you retreat to the jungle or live a monkโ€™s life. Your temple is your body, and in the life you already have, you can awaken to this love. The depth of this love is all that matters, and itโ€™s the only currency that will carry you beyond this life.
